Actor (m), 28-35, English spkrs, for lead role in Independent Swiss Short Film
Casting Overview
CURRENT is an English-language independent Swiss short film — a period survival drama written and directed by George Rebeiz.
Set in a medieval-inspired world (c. 1000–1300 AD), the film follows a father who leaves his family and critically ill young son to search for a rare medicinal plant after a storm destroys their remaining supply. What begins as a necessary journey develops into an increasingly brutal fight against cold, injury, exhaustion and the natural environment.
The film is being developed as a visually driven, grounded and performance-focused survival drama, with international festival submissions planned following completion.
Shooting period: 11–17 January 2027. Expected commitment: approximately 5 shooting days within this period.
Shooting location: Swiss/French Alps.
Compensation: Paid role. Travel and accommodation provided by the production.
Roles
male, playing age 28–35, English speaker.
A restrained, naturalistic performance is required.
Strong spoken English is required; actors do not need to be native English speakers. Applications are welcome from actors across Europe.
About the role: A father driven by an intense need to protect his family. He is capable, practical and resilient, but carries a strong need for control. As the journey deteriorates, that determination becomes increasingly self-destructive, pushing him through physical exhaustion, injury, fear and desperation.
The actor carries the majority of the film. Much of the performance is told with limited dialogue, relying heavily on physical behaviour, subtle emotional expression and the ability to communicate thought and deterioration naturally on camera. NB: The role is physically demanding and includes extensive exterior work in winter conditions.
*Selected applicants will be sent a short scene from the film together with self-tape instructions. The self-tape will serve as the primary audition for the role.
