Charité

(2017)

A drama series set in Berlin's famous Charité hospital in the late 19th century, following both the pioneering physicians — including Robert Koch, Rudolf Virchow, and Paul Ehrlich — and the nurses and patients whose lives intersect within its wards. The story centres particularly on Ida Lenze, a young woman who arrives at the hospital as a patient before becoming a nursing student, navigating the rigid class and gender hierarchies of the era. Through her experiences and those around her, the series explores the early battles against diseases such as tuberculosis and diphtheria alongside the personal and professional struggles of those striving to advance medical science.
