Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky
Directed by Jan Kounen (2009)
Following the scandalous Paris premiere of Stravinsky's *The Rite of Spring* in 1913, the film leaps forward to 1920, when a recently widowed and impoverished Stravinsky moves his family into Coco Chanel's grand villa at Garches. An intense and turbulent love affair develops between the two artists, each at a pivotal moment in their creative lives, with Chanel funding Stravinsky's work whilst their passion reshapes them both. The affair strains Stravinsky's marriage and ultimately proves unsustainable, yet both emerge transformed — he with renewed compositional vigour and she with the inspiration to create her iconic perfume, Chanel No. 5.
