Kaspar Hauser
Directed by Peter Sehr (1993)
A young man emerges from years of secret imprisonment in a cellar, unable to walk or speak properly, and is introduced into early nineteenth-century German society under the patronage of a local nobleman. As Kaspar slowly learns language and social customs, he displays an unusual sensitivity and intelligence that unsettles those around him. His mysterious origins attract the attention of powerful figures who may have reason to keep the truth about his identity buried, and he ultimately falls victim to a fatal assault before his background can be fully uncovered.
