The Zookeeper's Wife

Based on the true story of Antonina and Jan Żabiński, this film follows the couple who ran the Warsaw Zoo in the years surrounding the Second World War. After the Nazi invasion of Poland, they use the bombed-out zoo grounds and animal enclosures as a hiding place, smuggling Jewish refugees out of the Warsaw Ghetto and sheltering them in secret. Antonina must maintain a careful façade of cooperation with the German officer overseeing the zoo whilst protecting the hundreds of people concealed within her home and the zoo's buildings.
