The House of Branching Love
Directed by Mika Kaurismäki (2009)
A middle-aged Finnish couple find their marriage strained when the husband develops an infatuation with their attractive new neighbour, whilst his wife simultaneously begins her own flirtation with the same man. The tangled desires of both spouses become increasingly comic and complicated as all three characters navigate jealousy, longing, and self-deception. The film observes these domestic upheavals with dry humour, rooted in Pirkko Saisio's acclaimed stage play.
