Silent Night in Algona

(2022)

A German prisoner of war reflects on an extraordinary Christmas Eve during the Second World War, when a group of German POWs held in Algona, Iowa, constructed a large nativity scene as a gesture of peace. The elaborate crèche brought together local townspeople and their captive enemies in an unexpected moment of shared humanity. Based on a true story, the film explores how art and faith bridged the divide between former foes during wartime.
