A documentary portrait of Roman Vishniac, the celebrated photographer who captured the vanishing Jewish communities of Eastern Europe in the years before the Holocaust. The film draws on Vishniac's vast archive of images and personal materials, whilst also examining the complex and sometimes contested legacy of the man behind the lens. His granddaughter, Mara Vishniac Kohn, and other family members contribute recollections that complicate the heroic narrative long associated with his work.
